I’ve written before about how we’ve been slowly and not-so-steadily finishing the house. The husband got the main living area painted back in January. This was a huge job, and I’m so thankful to have it done. The soft gray makes our warmer-toned stuff really pop. Every time I see it, I’m happy with our choice.
Baby Bird moved out last month and is now happily making a nest of her own in the old farmhouse. This freed up some space for me. Our formerly multi-purpose sewing room and general catch-all is going to be a library. I ordered consoles and bookcases from Pottery Barn back in May, but due to supply chain issues, only the consoles have arrived, and not until early August. Greg is still working on the trim in this room, so we’re in no hurry.
In the meantime, our living room furniture very much needed to be replaced. Our sofa was over a decade old, and the recliners, given to us by my parents when my kids were small, were older still. I’d already reupholstered the recliners twice. So I felt that a trip to the new Living Spaces store in Schertz was not unreasonable. The store is well laid out, and the staff is friendly and helpful without being pushy.
With our high ceilings, we needed furniture with some heft to it. We also had personal requirements. Greg wanted a sofa long enough to stretch out on, but not too big for the available space. I wanted rolled arms and detachable back cushions for any future slipcovers I might make. After a lot of thought, a lot of measuring, and a lot of trying out the showroom pieces, we made our selections.
The gray is neutral enough to work well with a lot of change-out-able throw pillows, and the design is so comfortable. Our old sofa and chairs went to Baby Bird at the farmhouse.
What’s next? Probably window treatments. And my study still has to be painted. After that, the only things left to paint will be trim. It’s coming together! I do love this house.
