Late last month, I got together with my dear friends Mary and Cheryl for a few days of intensive writing and critiquing. The three of us have been holding these retreats for well over a decade, most often at Camp Arrowhead, an encampment center on the Brazos River where Cheryl’s family owns a cabin. I’ve come to regard Camp Arrowhead as a second home. Whenever I visit, I take a walk around the facility to see all the spots I love: the river…
…the ginormous tree…
…the other ginormous tree…
…the adorable tiny house whose original purpose is a mystery to me…
…the moss-covered rocks.
Mary and Cheryl are terrific writers as well as beloved friends. Over the years we’ve helped each other through countless plot tangles and character quandaries. We’ve encouraged each other, prayed for each other, talked and laughed, and made a whole lot of book and movie recommendations.
This year’s summer retreat was a much-needed time of refreshment and focused work during the last days of my deadline for Book 4. I hope we’ll be getting together again soon for a fall retreat.
